Memorial Service for Shirley Ann Poppell, 82, of Tyler will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 2:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1617 Shiloh Rd, Tyler, Texas.
Mrs. Poppell passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024 at her home in Tyler.
Shirley was born July 27, 1942 in Beatrice, Nebraska to Frederick Herman Eggers and Ruth Lucille Winslow-Eggers. She graduated from Harry Ells High School in Richmond, California in 1960. She was a beloved member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ruth Eggers; her sister, Joyce Elaine Trimpey; brothers, Gary Eggers and Ronald Eggers and her grandson, Scott Beu.
She is survived by her loving family, including her husband, Bennett W. Poppell of Tyler; son, Norman Poppell, daughter-in-law Belinda Poppell of Hawkins,; daughter, Rebecca Beu, son-in-law Edward Beu of Tyler and son, James Poppell also of Tyler. She is also survived by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved and adored her.
Shirley brought light and sunshine to all those that she associated with. She always had a smile on her face and brightened every room she entered. She was the oldest of five siblings and loved to be in charge of everything. She was born in Beatrice, Nebraska but moved to Richmond, California when she was around nine years old.
Shirley married the love of her life, Bennett W. Poppell, a handsome Navy seaman from Texas that swept her off of her feet (on a blind date) not long after she graduated from high school. They were married on January 14, 1961 and were married for 63 years. They settled in the northern California area and raised their three children there until 2006 when they decided to move to east Texas where her husband is originally from.
Shirley loved to serve the Lord. It did not matter what she was asked to do, she did it with a true servant's heart and did not require recognition for the countless hours of service she freely gave. Her capacity to love others was shown in all that she did.
Shirley had a successful career and worked as a payroll manager in the healthcare and hotel resort industries throughout her life. Although she worked outside of the home her family never felt that she was not available to them. Family always came first for Shirley and her unwavering and unconditional love for her husband and each of her children was always felt by them.
Shirley touched many lives and her absence from this world will be felt greatly. Her family and friends take great comfort in knowing that through the atonement of Jesus Christ and the power of His resurrection, we will all be reunited once again.
