Doug Fields

January 29, 1965 — March 26, 2025

Doug was born January 29, 1965 in Scottsdale, Arizona to John and Dorothy Fields. Growing up, he loved fishing, model airplanes, working on cars with his dad and playing the tuba in marching band. Doug also enjoyed video games throughout his life and shared that pastime with his wife and children.

Doug joined the navy after high school and learned to dive, a skill which he used later in life when he became a certified rescue diver and swift water rescuer.

In 1988, Doug met his wife, Jenny, in an Emergency Medical Technician course at Scottsdale Community College. Doug married Jenny on May 21, 1989. They built a loving family of five over the almost 36 years of their marriage.

In December 1988 Doug joined the Salt River Fire Department in Arizona. During his 21 years with that department, Doug was a Firefighter, Fire Captain, and Paramedic. There he was involved in wildfire fighting becoming a Crew Boss for brushfire wildfires, mentored children through the juvenile firesetter prevention program, he was a CPR instructor, Rescue Diver, and certified in Swift Water Rescue. Doug trained many firefighters and became close to the Salt River Fire Department community. He retired from the department in July 2009.

After retiring from the fire department, he worked for Professional Medical Transport Ambulance Company as a paramedic until he moved to Tyler, Texas in August of 2011.

Doug joined UT Health of Tyler as a paramedic in 2011. He became a paramedic supervisor and worked with the department until his death on March 26, 2025. Doug trained many new paramedics and was close to those he worked with.

While in Texas, Doug and Jenny founded Hope Ministries, a Disaster Relief Ministry of Grace Fellowship Church in Flint, Texas. Doug also worked closely with Crisis Response Ministry where he volunteered to support victims of crime and disaster. While volunteering with Crisis Response Ministry, Doug became the Chapter Director of Smith County. He attended FEMA disaster response and critical incident stress management training. Doug shared his passion for serving the community with his family, who often had the opportunity to serve many of the same victims by his side.

Doug was an avid pickleball player and was active at Tyler Athletic and Swim Club. He became very close to the TASC community and cherished the relationships he formed there.

Preceding Doug in death is his father, John Harold Fields of Scottsdale, AZ.

Doug is survived by his wife, Jennifer Fields of Tyler, TX; daughter, Kayla Fields of Tyler, TX; son, Kendall Fields of Whitehouse, TX; son, Alexander Fields of New Orleans, LA; mother, Dottie Fields of Chandler, AZ, and brother, Phillip Fields and wife, Rachel of Gilbert, AZ.

Doug Fields was a loving husband, father, dedicated firefighter and paramedic. He loved helping people and used his professional expertise to help others. He will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know Doug. The memory of his humor, love and dedication to his family and community will be cherished forever.
