Kathryn "Kathy" Stetson, age 82, finished her race and went to her eternal home on October 30, 2024, in Tyler, Texas.
Kathy was born August 31, 1942, in Riverton, Wyoming on her family's homestead to Vernon and Bethel Day. She is preceded in death by her parents and three siblings GlennaJean Day, Joyce Bond, and Dale Day.
Kathy graduated from Morton High School in Kinnear, Wyoming in 1961 and then attended Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho.
She worked for 24 years at St Lewis School for children with disabilities. She was hired as an aide, but over time developed a music program; got her bus license so that she could take "her kids" off campus; conquered her fear of water and learned to swim to assist in water therapy; and found local business who would "hire" the students for various projects. She also overcame her insecurities and wrote and obtained a grant to fund a sensory garden and developed a program for the students to plant and maintain the garden.
After she retired, she helped to found, Achieving Dreams, a day program for adults with disabilities. She served on the board as well as a volunteering for many years.
Kathy loved hosting, decorating, flower gardening and was always singing. She was kind, hardworking, and selfless. She loved her husband and family dearly, but most of all, she loved Jesus. She was a member of Grace Community Church for 50 years. One of her favorite verses was, "I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made Heaven and Earth." She truly knew where her help came from and often would say in difficult situations, "For this we have Jesus".
Kathy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Elwood B Stetson and her three daughters, Serina Hollowell, husband, Chad; Shavon Hayes, and Shaunda Stetson; five grandchildren, Avery Sanders, husband, Kirk; Claire Johnson, husband, Isaac; Bridgette Curtis, husband, Haidyn; Drew Hollowell and Isabella Hayes; and five great grandchildren.
